SADCs of Outaouais receive $7.3M for the economic development of the region

Chelsea, Outaouais, June 20, 2019 – The SADCs of Pontiac, Papineau and Vallée-de-la-Gatineau are thrilled by the announcement made today by Mr William Amos - Member of Parliament for Pontiac, on behalf of the honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and of Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED), about the new five-year agreement between the SADCs.

With the signing of this agreement, the SADCs will receive a total of $7,339,723, which will allow them to continue to pursue their mission and by making significant improvements to their services and better meet the needs of the community.

SADC Pontiac will receive a contribution of $2,328,666, while SADC de Papineau will be granted $2,678,666 and SADC Vallée-de-la-Gatineau will receive $2,332,391.

Daniel Chalifour, administrator of SADC Vallée-de-la-Gatineau and Outaouais representative on the Réseau des SADC et CAE Board of Directors, is very satisfied with this agreement: “This will allow us to pursue our mission of local economic development and to provide better support to the regions entrepreneurs. On behalf of the Réseau’s Board of Directors, I would like to extend our sincere thanks to William Amos for the support he has shown during this renewal process, as well as his commitment to the community and the close relationships he maintains with its residents.”

Improvements include new funds granted to SADCs according to their region’s socioeconomic situation and potential for development. This will enable the SADCs to better address the issues faced by the municipalities that are in the most need of assistance.

Mr. Amos is delighted with this excellent news for the region’s SADCs: “I am proud that the Government of Canada is investing millions of dollars in support of local SMEs and entrepreneurs, since they are the drivers of economic growth in the RCMs of Pontiac, Vallée-de-la-Gatineau, Papineau and Collines-de-l’Outaouais. The economic development of the regions is a priority for the Government of Canada and today’s announcement clearly demonstrates it!”  

The Honourable Navdeep Bains agrees. “The SADCs and CAEs are doing remarkable work on the ground to ensure the future of their communities. Our renewed support for these organizations is in line with the Government of Canada’s priorities aimed at stimulating the economy, creating jobs and growing the middle class.”

For Quebec, these agreements between the Government of Canada and the SADCs and CAEs represent a commitment of $169M over five years, with $25M in new funding to support the economic development of all rural communities.

The Réseau des SADC (Sociétés d’aide au développement des collectivités) et CAE (Centres d’aide aux entreprises) is a network of 57 SADC and 10 CAE that have been working in community economic development for more than 35 years. It is made up of over 1,400 professionals and volunteers who support and provide funding to more than 10,000 entrepreneurs and local economic development projects every year. www.sadc-cae.ca

Community Futures Program (CFP)

This program, which is run by CED in Quebec, ensures operations financing for the 269 SADC et CAE and CFDCs and CBDCs in Canada. The CFP recognizes the expertise of local decision makers and decision-making autonomy in order to encourage communities to take charge of their futures.
